Endoscopic examination of the esophagus, also known as esophagoscopy, is a procedure that uses a thin, flexible tube with a camera on the end to examine the esophagus, or food pipe. The tube is inserted through the mouth and passed down the throat and into the esophagus.

How is endoscopic examination of the esophagus performed?

The patient is typically awake during esophagoscopy. Mr Khatwa will first spray the patient's throat with a numbing spray and then insert the tube through the mouth and down the throat. The patient may feel a gagging sensation as the tube is inserted. Mr Khatwa will then guide the tube into the esophagus and use the camera to examine the lining of the esophagus.
